About CashScan
CashScan is a dollar bill scanner app built for collectors, dealers, and anyone curious about the bills in their wallet.

Created by James Wade
James Wade is a software developer and currency enthusiast who built CashScan to make paper money collecting more accessible. After spending years collecting bills and researching their history, he noticed there was no simple tool to help everyday people figure out if their bills were worth more than face value.
CashScan was built to solve that problem. The app uses on-device AI to identify any banknote, provide historical context, and estimate collector value from a quick scan with your iPhone camera. AI scanning works well for denomination and series identification, though small details like microprinting or subtle condition differences still benefit from careful human inspection.
Our Mission
Paper money tells the story of American history. Every bill has a series year, a production story, and potentially hidden value. Our mission is to put that knowledge in everyone's hands.
Whether you found an old $2 bill in your grandmother's dresser or spotted a star note in your change, CashScan helps you understand what you have and what it might be worth.
How We Research Our Content
Every article and guide on CashScan is written and reviewed by James Wade. We take accuracy seriously because currency values and historical details matter to collectors. Here is how we approach content:
Official Sources
We reference data from the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the Federal Reserve, and the U.S. Currency Education Program.
Market-Based Values
Value estimates are based on recent sales from Heritage Auctions, dealer pricing, and grading data from PMG and PCGS Currency.
Hands-on Experience
Our guides are informed by hands-on experience scanning, collecting, and evaluating hundreds of bills using CashScan. AI scanning is great for identification and series detection, but we also note its limitations; small security details and subtle condition differences are things only a human eye reliably catches.
Reader Feedback
We welcome corrections and feedback. If you spot an error or have additional information, contact us at [email protected].
Important Disclaimer
Value estimates on CashScan are for informational and educational purposes only. Actual market values depend on condition, buyer demand, and current market trends. CashScan is not a counterfeit detection tool. For high-value transactions, consult a professional currency dealer or grading service like PMG or PCGS Currency.
